To Do & FAQs

To Do

Explore Lucca

Take a walk or bike ride around the city walls (4.2km). Visit the Piazza dell’ Anfiteatro and people watch. Take a walking tour. Visit the churches and cathedrals (Cattedrale di San Martino, San Michele in Foro, Basilica di San Frediano, etc.). Climb the stairs at the Torre delle Ore. Check out the museums.

Day Trip to Florence

Go shopping. Visit the museums and see the art, and make sure to book your tickets in advance!

Day Trip to Pisa

See the sights and take in what Pisa has to offer.

Parco Alpi Apuane

If you’re interested in hiking, Parco Alpi Apuane is about an hour north of Lucca. There are trails of all difficulty levels and distances.

Montecatini Terme

A town in between Florence and Lucca (30 minute drive from Lucca), Montecatini Terme is known for its thermal waters. Take a sip from the fountains or visit the spas for a treatment. Parts of the Parco delle Terme are open to visitors starting from €6 and you can take a dip in the thermal pools for as low as €13.

Strada del Vino e dell’ Olio

…or the wine and olive oil road of Lucca. Visit vineyards and olive groves and do some tastings. Here are a few that look amazing to us:

Fattoria di Montechiari

Fattoria Del Teso

Societe Agricola Fratelli Urbani

Tenuta Adamo

Fattoria Sardi

Azienda Agricola Enzo Carmignani

Chianti & Beyond

You can coordinate a wine tour or make your own. On our first trip to the area, we visited two vineyards: Luiano, where we had a tour and tasting scheduled in advance; and Tenuta Riseccoli, where we just walked in. It’s definitely important to check with these wineries and vineyards in advance to see if they’re open and if they accept walk-ins. There are a lot of factors to consider when choosing your vineyards: do you want a tasting or a tour? Would you prefer a more formal/corporate atmosphere or are you comfortable with a rustic setting? We will happily add a few that stand out to us in the coming weeks.

FAQs

When do we need to RSVP by?

We would love for you to RSVP as soon as possible (preferably by July 8th!).

When you RSVP, you’ll help us know what your food preferences are, how many nannies we should hire, and how best to coordinate transportation for everyone.

Click the link here to see if you’ve already RSVP’d!

How will we get to the venue?

We are working to coordinate a shuttle to/from Lucca, so if you’re staying in or around the city walls, that’s your best bet. We will also have a van going from Buonamico Wine Resort, as well as Montecarlo. We will be finalizing the details and timings over the coming weeks.

Here are a few taxi companies that have been recommended to us for any other travel you’d like to do around town:

Radio Taxis - +39 0583 1745

Black Taxi Lucca - +39 329 6690854

Uber, Lyft, Bolt and FreeNow currently do not operate in Lucca.

Will there be parking on-site?

We will let you know after we visit the venue in April, but there will likely be limited parking spaces available. If you do plan on driving, please be safe and smart.

Is there accommodation available at the venue?

Unfortunately all of the rooms at Villa Duemani are accounted for, but feel free to check out other villas, Airbnbs or hotels in the area. We have a few recommendations from our planners listed HERE, and will be happy to help you find a place if you’d like (or introduce you to some awesome people so you can share a bigger spot!).

Are children allowed?

We love your kids so much, but we thought it might be nice to have a night off! If you’d like to use a shared childminder, we will coordinate a service on-site. If you’d prefer your little one(s) to be at your own accommodation, we will point you in the direction of trusted nannies.

For any other events (Friday and Sunday), feel free to bring your little ones along!!

What’s the weather like in Lucca in October?

The temperature in Lucca should be between 65°F (18°C) and 75°F (24°C), with a low of 50°F (10°C). The sun will set at 6:45pm on 8th October, so definitely bring a light jacket to keep warm!

What’s the dress code?

Smart casual! Feel free to dress in our color palette (warm fall colors like rust, mustard, forest green) — our planners will love you for it. Paige would advise against wearing stilettos since we will hopefully be outside on grass, but if you can get those heel protectors, that should help.

Will we be indoors or outdoors?

The plan is for the ceremony and party to be outdoors. In the case of rain, there will be space indoors for us to access.

Will we need cash?

Not for food or drink at the wedding, but we would recommend having some euros on you for taxis and maybe some of the smaller shops around. We can help you find places to exchange dollars or buy euros if you need! And Michael will be happy to send you an activation link for Revolut.

We know our presence is the greatest gift of all, but what if we still want to honor you with a gift?

If you insist, please feel free to visit our registry.

You didn’t answer all of our questions… How can we contact you?

WhatsApp, email, Instagram - feel free to reach out to us! (Feel free to send a message through the site or invite link if you need our numbers - Paige uses her American number on WhatsApp, Michael uses his Irish number).
